About the Firm

A small firm with the reach of a large one.

Rows of bound legal volumes in a law library

Founded in 1978 by Margaret Caldwell and James Mirren, our firm was built on a simple idea: that exceptional legal work requires exceptional attention. We remain deliberately small so that every matter receives the time, judgment, and seniority it deserves.

Our attorneys have argued before the highest courts in the country, negotiated transactions spanning four continents, and stood beside clients during the quietest and most consequential moments of their lives. We measure our success by outcomes — and by the trust our clients place in us, often across generations.

The firm's principles

Discreet. Deliberate. Unwavering.

For our clients, privacy is paramount. Every matter we take on is held in the strictest confidence. Our judgment, our discretion, and the care we bring to the work are the only reputations we are interested in building.

Caldwell & Mirren are the lawyers you call when the matter is quiet and consequential. Their judgment is the reason we have trusted them for three decades.
